General Information:

In 1667 a Latin school was established in Emmendingen for the children of the margrave’s officials and the affluent citizens of the city. This school was newly founded in 1695 and located on the corner of Lamm and Westend Streets.

The house was also the home of the deacon, who was the only teacher at the school until 1788. In 1864, the Latin School changed in form to the Höhere Bürger School and moved to Hebel Street 1.

In the Westend Street, the extension of the Lamm Street, there are to half-timbered houses, which belong to the oldest preserved houses of the city: Westend St. 12, the doorway bears the dates 1585 and 1620 and the Westend St. 17 from the middle of the 17th century. The rear house is older; date over the door entrance is 1750.
